2011 Global Reading Challenge

I joined the 2011 Global Reading Challenge hosted by Dorte H. It is a wonderful way to encourage reading more and new stuff. As part of this challenge I might pick up books which I wouldn’t have normally. So this will help me expand my horizon.

I enrolled in the “Easy Level” where I have to read one novel from each of these continents in the course of 2011:

  1. Africa
  2. Asia – (my own continent) – The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
  3. Australasia
  4. Europe – Room by Emma Donaghue, The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne
  5. North America
  6. South America (please include Central America where it is most convenient for you) – One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
  7. The Seventh Continent (here you can either choose Antarctica or your own ‘seventh’ setting, eg the sea, the space, a supernatural/paranormal world, history, the future – you name it).

From your own continent: try to find a country, state or author that is new to you.

I’ll update my latest position in the challenge on this page as and when I read a book and write down the review.

Wish me Happy Reading!!

  1. Hey Simran,

It is weird that I met you today, and only now I find you’re an avid reader too, just like me :). Got an idea when I saw the books at your place of course, but still seeing your other blog only now – silly me!

I’m not too adventurous though I like trying any author once before deciding, but currently stuck reading the Wheel of Time(Fantasy) series – have been stuck with it for months and now on Book 9. Am sure it’ll take me quite a few weeks more so should only attempt any challenges like the one you’ve mentioned in 2012 I suppose :).

    • Hey! Thats nice. I didn’t know that u loved books too… we’ll have more to talk about next time 🙂 I like trying out new stuff but within a particular range I guess. I finished reading Harry Potter series and am now looking for something to fill that void left!

    • So I updated this and completed a miserable 40% of the challenge. Read 4 books but satisfying 3 of the continents/criteria. I am in half mind to take up this year’s because I have been reading so many books and I am big time inspired by you 🙂 but more than half the year has already passed…. hmm let me think!!

What do you think? I would love to know.
